You may be fresh out of high school, re-entering the workforce, or looking to upgrade your skills – whatever reasons bring you to Algonquin College, Orientation is a big part of getting you set up properly so you can take on the new school year.

There are two equally important parts to your College Orientation experience: AC Start and AC Day 1 (Spring). New students at the Ottawa campus begin their time at Algonquin College on Monday, May 8, at AC Day 1. This is the kick-off to your academic and social life here. So what’s the difference? And why is it important to attend both? Let’s break it down for you.

AC Start (Spring)

AC Day 1 (Spring)

Monday, April 17, 2017

Monday, May 8, 2017

AC Start is “pre-orientation” – it’s where you get organized before AC Day 1.

At AC Start you will:

  • Familiarize yourself with the online tools you will use to access timetables, grades, and email
  • Learn about eTexts and how to use them
  • Take a campus tour
  • Check out info booths at the College Trade Show
  • Get your AC Card/U-Pass (student ID)

A Parent/Family/Spouse Information Session will also be offered on this day.

This is the introduction to your program and the people who will be a big part of your experience at Algonquin – your professors and the other students.

AC Day 1 includes:

  • Program Orientation (get to know your classmates, professors, and program)
  • Complimentary meal
  • Getting set up on Blackboard, email, WiFi
  • Campus tours
  • AC Card/U-Pass (student ID) pick up
  • Social and academic activities
  • Workshops about eTexts and the online tools you will use to access timetables, grades, and email

Please note, classes will be suspended from 8:00am-1:00pm on May 8 so that you can attend AC Day 1. Your regular schedule will resume after 1:00pm (please refer to your timetable available on ACSIS).
